Tuolumne County GMRS Repeater System
Community-Based GMRS Communications for Tuolumne County

Welcome to the Tuolumne County GMRS Repeater System. This website is intended for licensed GMRS users who wish to access and use the county-wide GMRS repeater network.

A valid FCC General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) license is required to use any repeater on this system. All users must identify using their FCC-issued GMRS call sign when transmitting.

If you do not yet have a GMRS license, please visit myGMRS.com or click the Licensing Information tab above to learn how to obtain one.

Our Repeater Network

The Tuolumne County GMRS system currently operates six repeaters serving Tuolumne County and surrounding areas.

What began as two original repeaters located in Groveland and Columbia has grown into a six-repeater network, providing improved coverage, reliability, and accessibility throughout the region.

Detailed information on repeater locations, coverage areas, and access requirements can be found under the Repeaters tab above.

Licensed GMRS users are welcome to join and use the system for personal and family communications, as permitted under their GMRS license, and to help support community communications throughout the county.

What Is GMRS?

The General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) is an FCC-licensed radio service operating on frequencies around 462 MHz and 467 MHz.

GMRS is commonly used for short-distance, two-way voice communications using:

Handheld radios

Mobile radios

Fixed base stations

Repeater systems

In 2017, the FCC expanded GMRS rules to allow limited data applications, including:

Text messaging

GPS location information

These updates modernized the service and expanded its usefulness for families and communities.

GMRS Licensing Information

GMRS licenses are issued to individuals only (not businesses or organizations) and are intended to support personal and family communications.

A GMRS license:

Covers the licensee and their immediate family members

Allows operation of one or more transmitting stations

Is valid for a 10-year term

While some non-individual systems licensed prior to rule changes are permitted to continue operating, new GMRS licenses are limited to individuals to ensure availability for personal users.
